What's Happening At Durst

The Art of Lingering, Patriotic Transformations, and Fire-Blistered Comfort

There is a distinct change of pace on the grounds this week. If you walk past the veranda this morning, you will see our team stepping into the role of the festive host—unpacking the vintage bunting, stringing fresh outdoor lighting, and softly dressing the historic property in its patriotic best. There is a deeply nostalgic, proud energy in the air as we gear up for one of our favorite milestones of the year, all while the delta breeze keeps the shade under our grand oak trees beautifully cool.

True estate luxury is a quiet thing. It’s found in the way the sunlight filters through the canopy to create dappled shadows on the grass, the heavy texture of a linen napkin, and the low, musical hum of laughter that carries long after the food is finished.

This weekend is an open invitation to step away from the rush, find a quiet corner of the lawn, and master the art of lingering.

From the Kitchen: Honest Flavors & Fire-Blistered Crusts

Chef Bernard's kitchen is an act of love and celebration this week, balancing the heat of the wood-fired oven with the crisp, vibrant textures of summer fruit. We are tossing the flour, stoking the flames, and sliding out a menu designed entirely for sharing across a crowded table:

  • Durst Jalapeño Bacon Poppers ($14): Fresh jalapeños stuffed with a rich blend of cheese and sweet yellow corn, wrapped in smoky bacon, and served with a side of cool ranch. Pairs perfectly with our Barbera Rosé.

  • The Meat Lovers Wood-Fired Pizza ($29): Pairs perfectly with our Leonardo Red Blend. A spectacular, blistered crust loaded with savory layers of spicy soppressata, ham, pepperoni, and Italian sausage, cut with the sharp, bright pop of pickled Fresno chilis and shaved red onion. The secret to the perfect, blistered crust on our Meat Lovers pizza isn't just the recipe—it’s the wood. Long before our first guests arrive on Friday afternoon, our kitchen team is already hard at work stoking our oven with seasoned oak wood, heating the stone to a roaring, perfect temperature. There is an ancient, beautiful art to cooking with live fire, and the gentle scent of oak smoke drifting across the veranda is our official signal that the weekend has finally arrived.

  • Strawberry Apple Poppyseed Salad ($19 - Serves 2): Made for the center of the table. A refreshing mountain of artisan mixed greens tossed with ripe summer strawberries, crisp apples, golden raisins, and candied almonds under a bright poppyseed dressing. Pairs perfectly with our Sparkling Rosé.

The Host's Notebook: The Art of the Festive Table

True elegance on the estate means never trying too hard. As we prepare the property for the upcoming holiday, we often get asked how we style our long communal tables to feel celebratory without feeling cluttered or overdone.

For Cassandra, the secret lies in swapping out loud, plastic holiday decor for rich, organic textures that mirror our natural landscape:

  • The Foundation: Start with clean, crisp linens in white or soft cream. It instantly softens the table and absorbs the filtering summer sunlight beautifully.

  • The Patriotic Touch: Instead of printed flags or loud patterns, introduce color through intentional details. A deeply saturated navy linen napkin paired with matching textured blue glassware brings a sophisticated, elegant nod to the red, white, and blue.

  • The Garden Vignette: Skip the stiff, formal florist arrangements. We love running simple, organic green garlands straight down the center of the wood table to let the landscape effortlessly flow right across the dinner setting.

The Shared Table: The Weekend Soundtrack

True connection happens in motion—hands passing an artisanal grazing board, a fresh bottle being uncorked, and live music drifting over the lawns. Our weekend lineup tracks seamlessly from twilight grooves to easy Sunday afternoons:

Friday Night (Durst After Dark) | June 26th (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM)

The kitchen opens at 3:00 PM, offering the ultimate excuse to slip away early as the daytime heat breaks. The brilliant Donovan Bryant takes the stage at 5:00 PM.

Saturday Afternoon | June 27th (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

Saturday brings a lively, family-friendly energy to the lawn with the fantastic Justin Brodie. The wood-fired pizza oven will be roaring from 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM, making it the perfect destination for an unhurried outdoor lunch with your inner circle.

Sip Back Sunday | June 28th (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

The definition of unhurried luxury. Pull up a chair, order a Meat & Cheese Board, open a chilled bottle of Fiano, and let the smooth, acoustic harmonies of Love & Honey stretch the afternoon out beautifully.

The Host's Notebook: Preparing for Red, White & Durst

As we hang the decor this week, our eyes are fixed firmly on next Friday, July 3rd (4:00 PM – 9:00 PM) for our official Red, White & Durst celebration.

True hospitality means creating a space where everyone feels like family. For this massive pre-Fourth bash, we are keeping the atmosphere entirely casual, patriotic, and relaxed. We are setting up classic lawn games across the grass, firing up the grill for an All-American menu, hosting a patriotic costume contest, and welcoming Donovan Bryant back to the stage under the evening stars.

The gates are wide open, entry is entirely free, and yes—your four-legged family members are warmly welcome, as the estate is completely pet-friendly. Pack your favorite lawn chairs, round up your favorite people, and visit our website to reserve your spot so our crew can prepare the grounds for you.
