Durst Winery & Estate is far more than a modern day tasting room that produces exquisite wine. It is the cultivation of years of agriculture and viticulture. The land itself has been carefully crafted and cared for by several generations of farmhands and winemakers...
The record of Durst land begins in the early 1900s with the Colony Church of Christ, who farmed the Acampo region for more than thirty-five years until it was sold Herbert A. Fairbanks. With his son-in-law, W.H. Dement, Fairbanks owned and operated 220 acres of irrigated land. 50 acres were devoted to a vineyard while the remaining land served as an orchard. To this very day, you can still find Ancient Tokay vines all around the perimeter of the current property.
After a time, the land went into complete disrepair and the house was eventually slated for demolition. Growth had started up everywhere and the house and surrounding land became a mess, the land had become overcome with growth of weeds waist-high and When it went up for sale, it allegedly took two men 3-4 months to remove all the growth from the front half of the property alone. Even the inside of the house was covered in growth, an ivy trunk was visible in the fireplace, which stretched out across the floors and walls of the inside of the home.
When Dan and Cassandra finally came to discover the abandoned home and adjoining property on Acampo Road, it was love at first sight. The Durst’s had a vision and were up for the task of slowly restoring the house to its previous glory, preserving its rich history. All of the hard work and passionate devotion to the restoration of the Fairbanks home inexplicably tied Dan and Cassandra to it. It became more than just a house, it became a part of their heart, earning it the name "Amada Mia" ("My Beloved").
Durst Winery & Estate stands as a living memory of the viticulture in the Acampo and Lodi region. It remains reminiscent of the past, rooted in the present, and hopeful for the future. Established on the principles of love, laughter, and togetherness, Cassandra and Dan continue to invite visitors to step away from the bustle of mundane life and recapture the essence of serenity, one glass at a time.
